May 5, 2025: Version 3.0 of SAIL simplifies the financial model in an effort to ensure that using SAIL adds no administrative complexity beyond what is already undertaken in typical licensing deals. Axiom 5 received a significant clarification, and definitions are simplified throughout. This version also simplifies the language used in the agreement, and provides a major expansion in the associated guidance on its use.
February 4, 2025: Version 2.0 of SAIL followed a detailed literature review that resulted in addition of the axiom of incentivization. Major changes were made to how SAIL handles access to improvements, and a fourth role, the Licensor, was added to facilitate use of SAIL in contexts in which the university is not the organization that directly manages licensing. This version also simplifies the language used in the agreement, and provides expanded guidance on its use.
September 17, 2024: The first release of SAIL, containing the key structure and rationale for the framework, including the proposal for 5 axioms of technology transfer (then referred to as guiding principles) that laid the groundwork for community engagement in the SAIL project.
